A Rocha Silver Award for Elmsett!

In July 2021 Elmsett Methodist Church set up a Green Group to try and combat the effects of Climate Change and give something back to our natural world.

We are doing various things such as refilling containers when empty with environmentally and animal friendly cleaning products, soap, washing up liquid etc. to try to reduce our use of plastic .We are using a local company “Love Refills” for this purpose who travel around the locality and are in the village once a month.

We are using Fair trade Teas and Coffee etc where possible.

As many of our insects are in trouble, we have planted a Pollinator bed and a mini wildflower meadow.

We are hoping to build a compost heap within the woods behind the church. We already have Bugingham Palace – a bug hotel built by Messy Church, a log pile and have recently added a Stag Pyramid! Bird and bat boxes have also appeared.

We registered with A Rocha as an Eco Church and are delighted that they have awarded us a Silver Award. This is partly as we were already forward thinking e.g., replacing lights with eco-friendly light bulbs and using electricity suppliers who source their energy from renewable sources .

Our Green Group is also part of the village Green Group to widen our eco credentials.

Future plans include investigating solar panels on the church roof and being a location for electric charging points in the village!

It’s good to be green!
