An outpouring of Love.

We now find ourselves in Holy Week and traditionally one of the stories we look at during this week is the anointing of Jesus at the home of Simon.  (Mark 14 verses 3-11.) This was the final story that we reflected upon in this year’s online Circuit Lent Course. Thank you to all those from around the Circuit who have taken part in the Lent Course and offered some really thoughtful and prayerful reflections.

After this reading, we considered four questions, the final question being……….

“The Women demonstrated extravagant love for Jesus.  How do we show our love of him in our lives and in the world?

This is a most challenging and thought-provoking question, one to consider not only in our journey through Holy Week but on a regular basis.

In a week in which we remember Jesus giving his very life for all, we pause also to consider the beautiful way in which he receives the gift of love and adoration from another.

This year’s Lent Course was written by the Revd. Michaela Youngson, who is one of three chairs in the London District of the Methodist Church.

In our final refection of the course, Michaela quoted from her wonderful book “Making the Colours Sing”. In this quote she places herself in the role of the Women anointing Jesus.

“Jesus sat very still, He received the gift, in all its messiness and all its glory, he accepted it. Jesus received me, accepted me in all my messiness and all my glory”

Prayer
We marvel Jesus that we are accepted and forgiven.
We marvel that you receive with tender grace our inadequate gifts.
Help to be as tender with others as you are with us.
Amen
