Having a positive body image – you’re the temple of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.”
Our bodies belong to God. He’s not just interested in our ‘spirit’ or our ‘soul’. Our bodies matter because God has put his Holy Spirit in us and that means we’re a temple of the Holy Spirit. What an amazing thought! Our bodies don’t even belong to us, but they belong to Him.
This means we should treat our bodies well and use them well. Paul writes that everything is permissible for the body, but not everything is beneficial or wise. That includes food, drink, drugs, desires, urges, or anything else. We are to exercise self-control, and not become enslaved to anything.
So now would be a good time to do an MOT on our bodies. We should check our relationship with food, sleep, exercise, TV watching – how balanced or self-controlled are we in each area, and is there anything we should change?
What step can we take today to make a difference, no matter how small?
