Gentleness

Gentleness is strength.

Have you ever played the hand holding game where you try to squeeze the hand of someone else as hard as you can so the knuckles hurt?

A small child cannot hurt an adult

But an adult could cause serious damage to a child.

I used to play this with my father, and in turn used to play it with my own children. It takes restraint as the adult not to hurt the child’s hand. The strong adult hand must remain gentle, mindful not only of it’s own strength but also the limitations and frailty of the small hand.

Being gentle is often seen as being weak, however gentleness is in fact strength.

Jesus was gentle with young children, with grieving Martha and Mary, or the Centurion. Yet he was unafraid to challenge injustice and hypocrisy in society.

Gentleness is reliable, consistent, trustworthy and steady. It is more about being aware of the needs of others and less about self.

Gentleness can be rebellious! The person who counters aggression with gentleness is completely counter to what the aggressor expects.

Gentleness is strength. Nothing shows your strength better than gentleness.

Go on be a rebel, be gentle!!
