Reason for the season

A friend of mine posted this on her Facebook page

Why are people saying ‘Halloween, bonfire night and Christmas are cancelled’ ?? ? there is no one actually stopping you doing these things? ? Halloween- you can still dress up with your kids, play games, dunk apples, do a spooky den in the garden. ? Bonfire night- buy some sparklers, fireworks, do some party food, have a bonfire in the garden and roast some marshmallows ??‍♀️??

Christmas- go all out and decorate your house, put lights up everywhere, watch Xmas films, have a Christmas party, play games, make the biggest dinner ever. Bake cakes, make your own decorations! You can still buy gifts, matching pjs, kids can still go out the front on Xmas day with their new bikes & toys.

There may be no get togethers, Halloween parties, Xmas parties, trips to Santa, or winter wonderland BUT you can still make it special and you’ll remember this year more than any other. ⛄️☃️❄️???????❤️???

Be just like it was in the 70s before everything got too commercialised

Make it what its meant to be…. Family time ❤️

It got me thinking about how in church at the moment things are different. I took part in my first communion since the restrictions that we have, set by the Methodist church, it felt weird to start with but thinking about it, we have to adapt to the way things are now, looking after everyone. We are still able to worship, all be it in a different way.

It also got me thinking about how the next couple of months in the Christian calendar are going to be different. We won’t be having big carol services; we won’t be doing the things we would normally do like singing carols but will be doing what we have to, to re-invent things.

Focus on what’s important, that we are a family of God no matter where or what we do. Also – remember the reason for the season!
