In an article for the San Francisco Chronicle, Herb Caen wrote, “Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every day a lion wakes up. It knows it has to run faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve to death. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or a gazelle; when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”
British pastor Charles Spurgeon wrote, “If you are not seeking the Lord, the devil is seeking you.” We must not wait until we are attacked by Satan to think about the strategy we use to escape the enemy of the soul. We must seek the Lord early, keenly aware that “the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5 v 8).”
Personally, I think the devil can do most damage in the middle of the night. When I can’t sleep or am worried about something that’s the time when I have to push him out of my mind, asking God to help me and give me strength. As well as hearing God’s voice in the morning you can hear Him anytime.
