I was driving home from Hadleigh and came across a combine harvester coming towards me. It was obvious I would not be able to pass, and there was a van behind me. I therefore had to edge forward.
Unfortunately I ended up with a wheel in a ditch, unable to get out. The combine passed, and the van behind me, looked as he passed me but did not stop. Another man walked past, but did not stop or say anything.
I was unable to reverse so called John who came to my aid immediately, but was unable to tow me out. The local farmer then happened to come past and stopped. He got a tow rope out and successfully pulled me out.
This true story reminded me of the parable of the Good Samaritan.
How often have we responded to the opportunity of being a “Good Samaritan”? Or have we driven past, too busy to stop, or walked on by, ignoring rather than acknowledging a person in need?
