For some time, I have been fascinated by how water can have a powerful effect. I am not thinking of incidents, such as a tsunami, or the raging torrents following storms, resulting in overflowing rivers, etc. What comes to mind is when you finish almost all the contents of a jam jar, fill it with water and leave it for a while, and it becomes clean. Or, after having mashed potatoes in a saucepan, fill it with water to make cleaning it much easier.
Such incidents sometimes remind me of Ephesian 5 verse 26, which speaks of “to make her (the church) holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word”. I recall many occasions when daily Bible readings address something for which I need direction, even if I don’t realise it until after the reading. In another TFTD I have referred to occasions when, listening to a speaker in church, I find myself silently asking, “Who told him about me?”
The part of the verse quoted earlier is shared as a reminder of what God’s desire is for His church. “Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for the provision available that should enable us to be presented in such a way. AMEN
