Does the thought of Valentine’s Day fill you with excitement or dread?

When I was a teenager, I sent a card to a young man I really liked but who didn’t care for me. It was a risky thing to do – to wear your heart on your sleeve. Although it wasn’t signed, the fact that I blushed every time I saw him since then probably broke the anonymity of it all. If anything, it spoilt any friendship I did enjoy with him rather than lead to enhancement of the relationship. Subsequently it led to me feeling rejected and a promise to myself that I’d never set myself up like that again.

It’s not like that with God! Send your messages of love and faithfulness to Him. He will never reject you – He loved you first. And it’s not just words!  John 3:16 ‘For God loved the world so much that He gave His Only Son.’ As we approach Lent, our minds turn to Jesus’ death and resurrection, and we are reminded of God’s amazing, unprecedented love for us even though we may not reciprocate. Even as Christians, our love for Him is so weak and fickle in comparison.

This Valentine’s Day, in the midst of opening cards, putting your flowers in water and eating chocolate, remember God loves you. He has loved you always and will love you forever. There is nothing you can do to diminish or extinguish His unconditional love for you. How great is our God!
