Wherever the wind blows

I was reading over some of the previous messages I wrote and part of this one is from the 5th May 2020.

“A farmer placed a weather vane inscribed with the words “God is Love” on top of his barn. One day a traveller stopped by the barn and watched the weather vane moving in the breeze. Then, with a smirk on his face, he asked, “Do you mean to say that your God is as changeable as the wind?”

The farmer shook his head and replied, “No. What it means is that no matter which way the wind blows, God is love.”

On Wednesday of this week I spent a few hours in the Emergency Department of Ipswich Hospital. I feel that I was very blessed as I received excellent care, from the Paramedics who “carted” me off in the ambulance, to the nurses and doctors. They were all very kind, considerate and helpfully professional. I spent quite a few hours in the waiting room after the initial prompt treatment.

A hospital waiting room is a very interesting place and to keep my mind occupied I made up stories as to why the various people were there. Some of them were accompanied by relatives or friends and some were on their own. Some recognised other patients and had conversations with them so you didn’t have to imagine what had happened as you heard the whole story. One patient, who was in handcuffs, was being guarded by two police constables. He was very obviously needing his next “fix.” The police constables were very patient with him even though he was agitated and messing about.

There were young and old, mobile and not so mobile, quiet and noisy and many people with different accents in the waiting room but God is a God of Love regardless of who we are and he is available for all.

Thank You Lord that your love encircles us, no matter which way the wind blows.
