His background as an academic (prof of Old Testament) as well as a pastor give him ample scope to bring scholarship – copious references throughout the text – and pastoral application to today’s believers – to bear on this commentary.
Withal, it has to be said, a plethora of apt illustrations and a delightful sense of humour make for enjoyable reading.
The author shows helpful and judicious balance where differing view or interpretations are mentioned which make the commentary a most readable and worthwhile source for any preacher or student of Old Testament history in the time of Jeremiah.
That the work has been reprinted 6 times speaks volumes of itself.
