Recently, my wife and I attended the Open Day for Vauxhall Christian Trust, and I was encouraged (cajoled?) into going on the Zip Wire. After signing what I consider the “Disclaimer form”, I was amazed at the attention and care as each person was equipped with the safety harness and crash helmet. On arrival at the “take off” platform, once again we were expertly checked, and so I ascended the steps, and further checks were made. I was instructed (encouraged) to stand on what seemed to be a small block of wood, and I had my first sight of what lay before me. My instructor then asked me to sit in the harness, hold onto a cord, and just lift my feet to start my journey. I was fully confident in the instructors and the equipment, but then realised that the only hindrance to starting my journey – was me.
The Bible teaches us about God’s love, Jesus being the only one able and willing to bring about reconciliation with God, and aided by God the Holy Spirit, who is the One to convince us of our sin and need of salvation. Like my Zip Wire experience, God has done everything necessary for us to enter into a relationship with Him, and all each individual has to do is “step off the platform”. And I did!
Ephesians chapter 2 informs us of all that God has done and provided for us and despite the chorus stating, “God can do anything” He is unable to take that step of faith – it has to be the individual’s act. Readers of this contribution may have already taken this step of faith. So, my personal challenge to share today is, “If our step of faith succeeded then, why should we be hesitant about another step of faith today – or whenever?”
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank You for all that You have done for us. Please help us to respond, in faith, to your guidance. AMEN
