Cosmic chemistry : do God and Science mix ? By John C Lennox
Lion, 2021 400 pages £13.99 ISBN 978 0 745 981 406 – Also available as an eBook

This work is a complete revamp of the author’s previous works in the same vein –
God’s Undertaker : Has science buried God ? (2007 and 2009).
The intervening years have seen major developments not just in science but in the ongoing science-religion debate.
John Lennox, an eminent scientist and philosopher (former prof of maths at Oxford), as well as a committed Christian, has written a magnum opus on the claims and counter-claims of atheism and theism.
As one has come to expect of the author in his many public debates, he is always respectful but his incisive analysis of science and his understanding of the Christian faith make for persuasive conclusions about the relative strengths and weaknesses of science and faith.
As a mathematician he relies heavily on experts in the biological sciences with information as a crucial element to the fore of the argument.
This is as complete a summary of the present position of the sometimes fierce debate that one could wish for nothing better.
One comment, made more than once in the book, is worth noting.
On both sides of the debate, neither party can avoid the ever-present tempation of allowing their worldview from effectively colouring their attitude to science and/or faith.
Fair point well made.
As a non-scientist I found this easier to absorb in small doses but well worthwhile at the end of the day.
