There are many preachers who invite people to Christ that when they are born again life will be back to normal and sweet. Some people felt cheated when what they were promised did not come true. They were promised healing within a certain time but that didn’t happen. They were promised success and prosperity but did not happen. Some people started to doubt about the gospel preachers were preaching. To make matters worse the blame would be shifted to the individuals for the lack of faith and not blessed physically.
The retribution concept of blessings in the Old Testament would be the basis of the argument why people are not blessed. That would create a burden of guilt to so many people if their dreams are not fulfilled. And that would cause people to move from one religion to another looking for a god who could answer their problems.
The book of Job provides one of the most compelling narratives regarding human suffering; the role of God and the existence of evil and suffering. The accusation made by Satan was that Job was faithful to God because of material prosperity. The friends of Job would also see it the same way that Job could be suffering for the wrong things he could have done. Job lost his children, his health and his wealth. The question we would all ask is why and where God would be when faithful servants are going through unbearable suffering. Job remained faithful to God.
God was and is not the source of evil and suffering. We suffer out of our free will, when we decide to do wrong. The world is suffering because of the few people who are corrupt and greed for power. We should look up to God who gives us wisdom and strength to do good. Restoration yes, it’s possible if God is involved in the planning for reconstruction and restoration. Those who build without God will labour in vain.
Will life be back to normal when everything seems to have been lost? With God all things are possible. God creates things out nothing and he is the same yesterday, today and forever!
