Isaiah 30 verse 21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”
The phrase at the end of the verse came to mind following our decision to enjoy two days away including an overnight stay. After visiting the beautiful grounds of Anglesey Abbey, I set up the in-car SatNav (updated 2 years ago) for our hotel destination but opted for the shortest journey, It turned out to be one of our most interesting journeys as we were directed along unnamed roads, many just wide enough for our car and including one section that bore a close resemblance to a scenic railway. Even the Wales speed limit of 20 mph was too fast. We successfully reached our destination, and decided we would use the same option the following day. However, this was not so enjoyable as we appeared to be going round in circles although the estimated time of arrival changed very little. However, when my wife checked the book of maps we were not convinced our SatNav was working correctly. To avoid any further confusion, I stopped the car, amended the option to “fastest” and arrived at our destination a few minutes earlier than originally estimated.
Judges chapter 6 records how Gideon not only asked God for confirmation but requested two different ways to confirm the Divine message. As a motorist, using maps and SatNav are just two options. My challenge has been to know God’s direction and appreciate that hindsight is much easier than foresight.
May our prayer be as the hymn-writer says, “Saviour like a shepherd lead us”, and with God’s help to follow. Amen.
