A couple of weeks ago I played in “The last Night of the Proms.” Not THE last night of the Proms, but our local small town variety. Members of our local town orchestra with a few guests brought the old favourites as well as a stunning performance of Greig’s Piano Concerto, with the soloist from a nearby village. The local High School musicians joined us for two pieces, and the Chorus was made up of singers from several local choirs. In fact, there were 3 people taking part who go to Elmsett Methodist Church.
We may never get a recording contract, and we may never get on the TV, but the playing and singing was fantastic, with an enthusiastic audience joining in with singing and flag waving.
What this demonstrated was that there is so much talent out there that we might not be aware of. Joining together, under an enthusiastic conductor, brought a sound we could all be proud of.
Do we sometimes feel our talents are inadequate? Do we need the encouragement of someone else to nurture that talent?
God wants us to use our talents for His glory. We need not feel inadequate – as our conductor (frequently) tells us, “Don’t worry if you play an occasional wrong note, enjoy playing – after all, the reason the audience is out there, is because they’re not good enough to be playing here!”
God tells us, “Don’t worry that you feel your contribution is inadequate. Whatever you offer is good enough for me.”
Prayer: Loving Father, we thank you for the talents you have given us. Help us to appreciate our own talents and those of others. May all we do glorify you. AMEN
