Windows of the soul

I had a wonderful time last weekend watching the coronation and then the concert on Sunday evening. There were so many memorable times during the service but one thing which really stuck with me was during the concert in Westminster Abbey prior to the service. The young gentleman who was playing the French Horn in the orchestra had lovely eyes.

Our eyes are so important to us and they come in many shapes and colours. Your eyes can be so expressive and during the Covid pandemic when we all had to wear masks, they were an important means of interacting with others.

I’m finding as I get older that my glasses are getting stronger and I definitely cannot do some of the finer needlework that I used to be able to do. Mind you at least I can still see whereas the young girl who played the piano at the concert was blind.

Some folk refer to the eyes as the “windows of the soul.” We may think we can read deep into a person’s soul but only God really knows.

StF 631 is based on Psalm 121.

I lift my eyes to the mountains,

where does my help come from?

My help comes from you,

maker of heaven, creator of the earth.

O how I need you, Lord,

you are my only hope;

you’re my only prayer.

So, I will wait for you

to come and rescue me

come and give me life.

Thank you, Lord, that when we lift our eyes to you, you will always be there to help and rescue us.
