Take a moment

Every morning and every evening my watch tells me to “Take a Moment”: A short time to reflect and to breathe. In this very busy and impatient world it’s a reminder that we need to relax. It seems to me that people, especially young ones, want things immediately instead of taking time and being content with what we have. (Sorry to any young ones I’ve upset.)

In Luke 2 v 25 -35, Simeon had been waiting a long time for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel and when the baby Jesus was presented at the temple he realised that he was the One.

Luke 2 v 36 -38 tells us about Anna who was 84 and had not left the temple for most of her life. She spent her time in prayer and worshipping God. She also realised that Jesus was the One. Both of these people had been patiently waiting for a long time.

Someone else who has been waiting a long time to fulfil his destiny is King Charles. He became heir to the throne when he was 4 and now over 70 years later he is being crowned today. I will be glued to the television, as I’m sure will many millions of others.

I like the words of 648 from StF and I pray them for King Charles:

God to enfold you,

Christ to uphold you,

Spirit to keep you in heaven’s sight;

so may God grace you,

heal and embrace you,

lead you through darkness

into the light.
