It is 3 weeks since I returned from India and life has returned to the usual busy pattern. Thank you to those who have sent messages and prayed. I was very ill while I was away and it took me a long time to recover fully but now is the time to share a few thoughts with you.
The first photo is taken in Melavasal; one of the large slum areas in Madurai. If you take a moment to study the picture it easy to be overwhelmed by what you see. Conditions are appalling; people are living and trying to earn a living in amongst filth, squalor, rubbish and sewage. This is the reality for many of the children and families that NewDawn supports. Life is hard.
The next photo is in the same slum. I am about to go into the home of my two sponsor children. They have hope. They have support, access to opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable to them, they have advocates who help them speak up for their rights. They have places of safety to go to where they can be children; play, sing, dance and learn.
It is easy to think that the scale of the problems is too big but I am often reminded of the words of Jesus “`I tell you the truth, whatever you did for ONE of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
We are a small Christian charity that works to change lives. And we do. Many of the young people have gone on to complete higher and further education, many have taken up professional jobs. Others have completed vocational courses. They have been given hope.
We would love to share more with you and are always happy to come and talk with groups! Please contact me and we will arrange a suitable time.
