We join with the people of the nation and of the commonwealth as we mark the passing of one of the most remarkable women of our time. Taking on the responsibility of being the monarch at just twenty-six years of age, she has been an incredible role model for seventy years, respected and loved the world over.
This has been a memorable year as we remember the platinum jubilee celebrations at the beginning of June, marking an achievement unparalleled by any monarch in history. During the final days of her life, she welcomed the fifteenth prime minister to serve the nation under her rule, marking the fact that she kept the promise she made seventy years ago that she would serve the nation to the end of her days.
We are saddened by her death and our thoughts are with those who are closest to her and feeling the pain of loss even more acutely today.
