Two addresses by Rev Dr WE Sangster MA, DD
1) What it is to be a Christian and 2) Why I believe in the gospel for England
Evangelical Recordings Ltd (ELP 2200) Long-play record out of print
The inimitable voice of a great Methodist preacher can be heard on both sides of this vinyl recording.
The first talk answers the question ‘What does it mean to be a Christian ?’
Several possibilities – knowledge of the creeds, engagement in worship, attendance at communion and behaviour – are all dismissed as being insufficient in and of themselves.
What makes a real Christian is a living relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour.
The second talk has to be a classic not just of its time – the Festival of Britain in 1951 – but is just as relevant to our own day, if not more so.
What has Christianity done for our country and what it could do – these facts are the focus for a well-argued case, unforgettable humour included, of the influence of the Christian faith on the culture of this sweet, green land’.
That same faith, personally accepted and applied with honesty and commitment, could do the same for a culture just as much in need of a revival of real religion.
