The Thought for the Day is from Hebrews 11 v 6.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him
An atheist said to a Quaker, “Have you ever seen God? Have you ever felt God? Have you ever smelled God? And you say you have a God!”
After a long pause, the Quaker replied, “Hast thou ever seen thy brains? Hast thou ever felt thy brains? Hast thou ever smelled thy brains? And thou sayest thou hast brains!”
There probably are very few atheists—-those who have seriously thought about life and concluded that there is no God. There are more agnostics—-thinking people who say, “I don’t know.” The vast majority of individuals, however, affirm—-at least intellectually—that God exists.
Hebrews 11 v 6 tells us that recognizing God’s existence is the first step to knowing Him personally. Then we must seek Him and believe that He will reward our quest to know Him. God reveals He is there by His mercy, love and care.
One day last week I was wrapping up a parcel and my Sellotape ran out. I knew that I had another couple of rolls somewhere in the house. I searched in cupboards and drawers where I felt sure the extra rolls were, but to no avail. I couldn’t find them so the parcel got tied up with string.
The next day I was getting something else out of my little filing drawers, where I keep office type things and what did I find—–my two rolls of Sellotape. This of course is where I should have looked in the first place.
This reminds me of looking for God. Firstly, I should be looking in the obvious place -My Bible. There I will find His guidance, love and support.
Please pray for all those who need to seek and study His word that they will be rewarded when God gives them strength to face the future and faith to believe in Him even though we physically see Him.
