Welcome home!

My son recently returned from Australia for a holiday after 3 and a half years away. He and his girlfriend flew into Manchester airport, as they were visiting her parents initially. I did feel momentarily envious that they were going there first, but then realised they would have got over the jetlag by the time they came down to Suffolk!

The day that Chris was coming down approached, (his girlfriend was spending more time with her family), and I bored everyone with my excitement as the day got nearer.

Finally, the day arrived, a banner and balloons placed at the front of the house for all passing by to see. I drove to Ipswich Station to meet the train Chris was on. I managed to restrain myself from taking balloons with me – parents can be so embarrassing!! However, as I eagerly awaited his train I chatted to the rail guard at the ticket barrier, “I’m so excited my son is coming back from Australia today!” and then when Chris came through the barrier, I couldn’t help myself, but stretched up to him, big bear hug and kiss on the cheek. (Apologies to anyone else who was coming through the ticket barrier at the same time).

If this is how a parent reacts to a child returning home, imagine God’s reaction when we return to him. He would have taken balloons, streamers, trumpets to the station. There would be some party!

Chris and Laurie are in the UK for 3 weeks visiting various members of family and friends in different locations of the UK, so as this TFTD is uploaded we are still celebrating them being with us, but all too soon we will be saying our goodbyes again.

God celebrates those who draw close to him, but He doesn’t monopolise us, He sends us out into the world, to different places, some near some far, He calls us to spread His gospel message that is for all people.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, you welcome all who come close to you. Welcome us once more, and use us as you will, and in those places you would send us. We thank you for times we can celebrate together, and know that you are with us when we are far apart. Bless all who cannot be together for whatever reason – thinking especially about families separated by war. AMEN
