We dutifully watch University Challenge each week. It’s a miracle if we get anything right. I’m fairly good at History and Art and even some types of music, but totally thrown by rock/ pop/ jazz, and astro physics is alien to me. But we press on in the hope we will discover something we know and be quick enough to say what it is before the nimble brained young people come up with the answers.
We all have specialities.
1 Cor 12 sets out the spiritual gifts God has given us. It’s worth a read even if we think we know it well. It’s a reminder that we can’t all be good at everything yet God can bless us with his Spirit to take what He has given us through His Spirit and use it to His glory.
One of my favourite hymns is Singing the Faith 661.
Charles Wesley writes in verse 3
My talents, gifts and graces, Lord,
Into thy blessed hands receive;
and let me live to preach thy word,
and let me to thy glory live;
my every sacred moment spend
In publishing the sinner’s friend.
Let’s use what God has blessed us with to His glory today.
