Fruits of the spirit 6

Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Last week I was writing about kindness. Today we are thinking about goodness. What is the difference? Surely kindness is goodness? Is all goodness kindness?

The image I’ve attached to this thought is of several loaves of bread. Close your eyes and imagine you are in a warm kitchen, with freshly baked bread hot out of the oven.

Mmmm! That IS good!

It is comforting, warming, nourishing and healthy.

Can we be like a freshly baked loaf? Someone who comforts others, who welcomes them and put them at their ease. Do our lives bring nourishment and good spiritual health to others?

Jesus is that freshly baked loaf of the bread of life, broken for us so that we might be nourished and made healthy again.

Next time you slice into a fresh loaf of bread, give thanks for it’s goodness and ask God to help you radiate that goodness to others

Prayer: Jesus, you are the bread of life, sustaining and nourishing us. You are full of goodness, warming and comforting us. We pray for those who do not know of your goodness, and for those who long for real food. May we bring goodness to this world, may we play our part in nourishing this world. AMEN
