3 Theories of everything by Ellis Potter
Destinee Medium, 2012 112 pages £9.99 ISBN 978 0 983 276 852
This is an unusual approach to the consideration of worldviews.
The author takes three basic ways of viewing reality from an Eastern perspective as well as a Western perspective.
Three circles, as defined by Ellis Potter, explore major worldviews that offer different answers to fundamental questions about the meaning of human life – what is reality ? why do we suffer ?
Positive and negative aspects of the worldviews under consideration are clearly addressed.
The first circle (11 pages) concerns Monism, i.e. Hinduism and Buddhism.
The second circle (5 pages) considers Dualism, e.g. Taoism or Confucianism while the third circle (23 pages) addresses Trinitarianism, i.e. Christianity.
After these three analyses, the author records 45 questions (and answers) which arose from the author’s lectures and conversations with groups and individuals.
Potter’s active experience in many religions qualifies him to offer helpful and reliable information to the reader.
A useful and helpful book.
